Golf: Dominion Takes Dulles Title; Tuscarora Clinches Regional Bid; Heritage's Douglass Outlasts Valley's Hildebrand in Marathon Low Medalist Playoff

Haymarket (Sept. 18, 2012) - It took nearly 12 hours of golf Tuesday at Bull Run Golf Course for the Dulles District to settle all accounts and when the damp grass was cleaned off the final clubs there was plenty of celebration to go around: Dominion High School added the tournament title to their regular-season crown; Tuscarora finished runner-up to clinch the school's first ever Region II trip; and Heritage's Ryan Douglass outlasted Loudoun Valley's Ian Hildebrand in a marathon 7-hole playoff to take low medalist.

Both Douglass and last year's district low medalist Hildebrand shot 72 in regulation and then went shot-for-shot for six playoff holes before Douglass finally gained the upper hand in the dying light on the 7th playoff hole. Defending AA state champion Sam Stilwell of Dominion shot 74 to finish third.

Also advancing to regionals as individuals: Nick Kovach of Woodgrove (75), Parker Graham  of Loudoun County (76), Zach Bolyard of Loudoun County (77) and Ryan O'Sullivan of Heritage (78).

Golf: Dominion's Stillwell Gets More than a Kick out of His 66 -- He Captures the AA State Title! Valley's Hildebrand is 7th and W. Albemarle Takes Team Title

(Oct. 11, 2011) - Dominion High School junior Sam Stillwell trailed by five strokes after the first day of the Virginia High School League AA state golf tournament but the Titan turned in a Titantic-like second round of 66 to steal the individual state title with a 2-day total of 142.

Stillwell, who helped Dominion to the school's first ever Dulles District regular season golf title this fall, edged Cave Spring's Nick Brediger (71-72) by one stroke for the low medal honors. Loudoun Valley's Ian Hildebrand was seventh with a 147.

In the team competition, Region II runner-up Western Albemarle took the title with a 2-day total of 606, six strokes ahead of Cave Springs. Stillwell is the third VHSL AA golf champion from Loudoun, joining Garrett Pike of Potomac Falls (2001) and Kenny Roseberry of Loudoun County (1999). In 2004, Dominion's Sara Hurwitch VHSL girls open state title.
