Youth Sports - Basketball - Flexx All-Stars White Go Undefeated in Summer League Play

(July 27, 2010 - The Flexx All-Stars White basketball team finished the Triple Threat summer league regular season undefeated and earned a No. 1 seed going into the tournament this week.

The team was led by point guard Jackson Casillas who calmly orchestrated the offense and was one of the team's leading scorers.

"Jackson was a stabilizing force for our offense all season" stated coach James Larsen. "He did a really nice job managing the offense."

The team was sparked by the shooting of forward/center Kevin Mihich whose outside shooting was stellar throughout the season and shooting guard Vincent Benvenuto who is emerging as both an offensive and defensive force.

Matt Burkholder, Damon Kolokuris, and Mitchell Lough were the backbone of a stifling defense that held opponents to average less than 15 points a game.

"Coach Darrell Durst and I preach defense and rebounding. Matt is our Mr. Fundamental and a solid rebounder. Mitchell and Damon used their quickness all season to make our pressing style of defense difficult for our opponents to handle", said Larsen.

The team also enjoyed the benefit of shot blocking center/forward Eric Palmer who rejoined the team late in the season. According to Larsen, Eric's return was critical to the team's late season success.

While the team is confident going into the playoffs, it will be a huge challenge. Roster and vacation issues have left the team with only five players as it heads into the tournament.

"These kids are all winners in my book", said Larsen, "Each and every one of them has grown immensely and worked very hard. Regardless of the outcome, Coach Durst and I are very proud of them."
