Girls Soccer: Broad Run, Stone Bridge AAA State Quarterfinal Preview

(June 5, 2012) - If Broad Run and Stone Bridge can both win their AAA state quarterfinal match-ups tonight then a dream semifinal awaits Friday at Westfield High School as the two Ashburn rivals would clash ... but first they must get by some great competition tonight.

Broad Run (13-4-5) at Kellam (20-1-1), 5 p.m.
*Kellam is ranked No. 10 in the nation for spring soccer according to ESPN
*Kellam beat Cox 2-1 to win the Eastern Region title
*Broad Run captured the Cedar Run District tournament title and then knocked off the Washington D.C. area top ranked team Forest Park 1-0 in the Northwest region tournament before falling to Battlefield in the regional finals.
*Broad Run moved up to AAA level this year after winning four straight AA state titles
*Kellam coach Mario Hurdle was named Eastern Region Coach of the Year
*Alex Askew, 1st team all region, leads Kellam's scoring attack
*Also first team for Kellam: Chloe Boros and Mikayla Plankster.

Deep Run (17-3) at Stone Bridge (16-2-2), 7 p.m.
*Stone Bridge JR Murielle Tiernan was profiled on the front page of the Washington Post Sports today about her fight against Cystic Fibrosis. Read James Wagner's story.
*Stone Bridge won the Northern Region title for the second time in three years. In 2010, the Bulldogs went on to win the AAA state title.
*High-scoring JR forward Ashley Herndon also plays for the D.C. United Women team.
*Deep Run lost the Central Region finals to Cosby on penalty kicks after tying 2-2.
*Haley Sinclair and Elizabeth Ball scored for Deep Run in the regional final.
