News: Middleburg Academy Baseball to Hold Golf Tournament Fundraiser April 16 at River Creek

(March 31, 2012) - The Middleburg Academy baseball program is hosting a golf tournament fundraiser at the River Creek Club in Leesburg on April 16 at noon. The golf tournament with a buffet dinner to follow is $99 per person ($69 for River Creek Club members) which includes golf, cart, dinner and 2 drinks (Dinner only - for $40.). There will be prizes and a raffle also.

Ice Hockey: Ashburn Extreme Hosts USA Hockey National Pee Wee Championships Through Sunday

(March 30, 2012) – Hundreds of the best 11 and 12-year-old hockey players from across the country have been in Northern Virginia since Wednesday competing in the USA Hockey 12 & Under Tier II National Championships which run through Sunday, April 1, at the twin rink Ashburn Ice House and SkateQuest Reston facilities. Three local squads – the Ashburn Xtreme (host team), Reston Raiders and Montgomery (MD) Blue Devils – are among the 38 teams, representing 36 different states, in the five-day tournament.

News: 15 Loudoun County Public Schools Students Compete at Today's State Geography Bee

(March 30, 2012) - Fifteen Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) students have qualified for the Virginia Geography Bee today at Shenandoah University in Winchester.

The Virginia Bee is part of the National Geographic Bee, which takes part in three stages. It begins with competitions at the school level for students in fourth through eighth grade. Each school winner takes a written test and the top scorers in each state and territory compete at the state level.

Youth Sports - Baseball: NOVA Legends Win St. Patrick's Day Tournament in D.C.

(March 29, 2012) - The NOVA Legends, a 12U tournament team made up of baseball players from the Ashburn, Sterling, and Reston areas, took home first place in the Inaugural St. Patrick's Day Tournament in Washington, DC on March 18.

(March 29, 2012) - Heritage High School grad and Snow Swimming's Damon Rosenburg earned his first conference title for NCAA Division III Denison University. Rosenburg achieved the feat in the 100 breaststroke with a NCAA provisional time of 56.22. Rosenburg was also a member of the 400 medley relay team which placed second at the conference level before setting a D3 record at the national meet.

Rosenburg helped Denison capture the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving championship with a 10th place finish in the 100 breaststroke and he swam the breaststroke leg of the winning 400 medley team that set a new NCAA Division III record.

Each month, VivaLoudoun.com editor Dan Sousa selects the top high school athletes from across Loudoun and they are invited to a photo shoot. The February 2012 honorees met at Lifetime Fitness in Ashburn on Sunday, March 25.

"This was an impressive group selected for the final month of the winter sports season as many Loudoun teams and athletes had clutch performances on the regional and state levels," said Sousa.
