(Feb. 10, 2010) - Loudoun County Public School high school principals approved a plan this morning formulated by Dulles District athletic directors to get the winter sports season back on track after a week of snow postponements.
In Loudoun, seven of the high schools (Briar Woods, Broad Run, Dominion, Freedom, Loudoun County, Park View and Potomac Falls) make up the AA Dulles District. Stone Bridge plays in the AAA Liberty District and Heritag and Loudoun Valley play in the AAA Cedar Run District. Make-up information for the Liberty and Cedar Run will be posted as soon as it is available.
Here is the Dulles District plan, sport-by-sport:
Basketball: The regular season is terminated and teams will head straight to the distrcit tournament with seeding according to current district win percentage. Junior varsity and freshman basketball is finished for the year. The Freedom and Loudoun County girls are tied and will hold a one-game playoff at 2 p.m. on Mon. Feb. 15 (President's Day) at Park View High School. The boys and girls district tournament quarterfinals will be pushed back a day from Tues. Feb. 16 to Wed. Feb. 17. The district tournament will then pick up as scheduled with the girls semifinals Thurs. Feb. 18 and the boys semifinals Fri. Feb. 19. The district finals will be Sat. Feb. 20. All semifinals and finals will be held at Freedom High School.
Gymnastics: By late Thursday or early Friday a decision will be made on events being held on Sat. Feb. 13. If Sat. is available, then the district meet will be held Sat. Feb. 13 at Briar Woods High School. The A/AA gymnastics state qualifier will be moved to Mon. Feb. 15 at Potomac Falls High School. If Saturday is postponed, then the Dulles District gymnastics meet and the A/AA qualifier will be wrapped into one meet on Mon. Feb. 15 at Potomac Falls.
Swim: If Sat. is available, then the district swim meet will be held at Claude Moore. The Region II swim meet has been moved to Mon. Feb. 15 in Warrenton Aquatic Center at 11 a.m. If the district swim meet can not be held on Sat. then the Athletic Directors will meet and make a decision as to sending swimmers to regionals without a district meet or holding a district meet on Monday or a later date and have swimmers skip regionals. Swimmers would still qualify for States via times already posted or their district times.
Wrestling: James Wood High School is still planning on holding the regional meet as scheduled on Friday and Saturday of this week but a snowfall on Wednesday could delay the Friday portion. If so, then the Region II wrestling meet would be Saturday and Monday or even possibly Saturday and Sunday if Sunday play is approved.
Forensics: The districts forensics meet will be held this Sat. at Potomac Falls. If Sat. is postponed then the meet will be held on Sat. Feb. 20 with the regional meet scheduled for that date TBA.
